The BÖHLER K340 ISODUR, 8% chrome steel, is manufactured by electro-slag remelting (ESR). Developed and tested by BÖHLER, this remelting technology provides extremely low micro and macro segregation and gives the material the purity and homogeneity needed to deliver outstanding performance in practice.
Bohler K340 – Bohler Uddeholm Group Tool Steel. Compared to analog, the X12MF has higher purity and higher durability. It is the best choice for hunting or outdoor knives.
Chemical composition by weight: 1.10% C, 0.70% Si, 0.40% Mn, 8.20% Cr, 2.10% Mo, 0.50% V, + Al, Nb
Heat treatment
Hardening: 1020 to 1060 C (1870-1940 F). Oil, salt bath, compressed air, air, vacuum. After heating, hold for 15 to 30 minutes.
Hardening: Slow heating to thawing temperature immediately after curing. Time in the oven 1 hour for every 20 mm (0.79 inch) workpiece thickness, but at least 2 hours. Air cooling.
