Damascus steel is widely known as one of the most durable knife steels among hunters, anglers and outdoor enthusiasts. The Damascus steel offered by AA Knives is forged from three different steels to obtain the well-known, unique pattern that combines the positive working qualities of all three: durability, flexibility and long-lasting sharpness. It is believed that, thanks to its excellent cutting ability, this steel often tends to outperform stainless steel products, because its blade forms a micro-saw-like surface characteristic of materials forged from several steels together. Since Damascus steel is a steel that can rust, it is especially important to remember that it must be properly maintained. Just as you would not put away a firearm brought home from a rainy day of hunting without cleaning and treating it, you also need to care for your knife, which likewise plays an important role in the hunt. After use, a Damascus steel knife should be wiped carefully, cleaned of dirt and dried to avoid moisture during storage, which over time can cause rust, and do not forget to oil it. You do not need to buy professional protective products for this, as any cooking oil from the kitchen will do, since a hunting knife almost always comes into contact with meat and other food, which is why machine oil is not recommended for protecting the knife. Regular sharpening and honing should not be forgotten either. Still, anyone can forget a freshly used knife in the car or at the bottom of a bag, and after it has been there for a while, there are dark spots on the blade: the first signs of rust. But do not worry, you do not have to give up your favourite tool! For the best result, go to any hardware store, buy the finest sandpaper (P2000 – 2500) and remove the rust spots by gently rubbing the blade. Remember that the knife will last longer and work better if you can find a short moment to properly care for it every day, but if the aspects of care still seem unclear when you buy a knife, AA Knives will kindly advise you how to take good care of you knife .
