Use and care of Damascus steel

Damascus steel is widely known as one of the most durable knives that hunters, anglers and outdoor enthusiasts choose for their needs.

The Damascus steel offered by AA Knives is forged from three different steels, resulting in a material with a well-known and unique pattern that combines the three positive working properties of the steels used – strength, flexibility and the ability to maintain its sharpness for a long time. It is believed that due to its superior cutting capabilities, this steel often even outperforms stainless steel products, as its blade creates a micro-saw-like surface that is unique to materials of several steels forged together. Since Damascus steel is one of the most rust-resistant steels, it is especially important to remember to take care of it properly.

Just like a weapon brought home from a rainy hunt – not wiped and not cleaned – no one immediately puts it in the safe, in the same way, you have to take care of your knife, which fulfills a much more important task than a weapon during the hunting process. After use, the Damascus steel knife should be thoroughly wiped, cleaned of dirt and dried, so that during storage it does not get moisture, which could cause rusting over time, and you should not forget about oiling. It is not necessary to purchase professional protective materials for this purpose, any cooking oil found in the kitchen will also be useful here, because the hunting knife almost always comes into contact with meat and other food products, so the use of mechanical oil to protect the knife is not recommended. Also, do not forget about regular sharpening and correction.

However, it happens to everyone that they forget a freshly used knife in the car or at the bottom of their bag, and when it has been there for some time, dark spots have appeared on the blade – the first signs of rust. But should you give up your favorite tool for that? Not at all! To make things better, just go to any hardware store and get the finest sandpaper (P2,000 – 2,500) and lightly rub the blade to get rid of the rust spots.

It should be remembered that the knife will last longer and perform its task better in the work process if you can find a short time every day for its proper care, but if, after buying a knife, the care aspects still seem unclear, AA Knives will not refuse advice to make working with a knife comfortable and pleasant.
