Damascus steel is widely recognized as one of the most durable knife steels, favored by hunters, anglers, and outdoor enthusiasts.
The Damascus steel offered by AA Knives is forged from three different types of steel to achieve its well-known and unique pattern, which combines the positive properties of the three steels used — strength, flexibility, and long-lasting sharpness. It is believed that, thanks to its excellent cutting performance, this steel often outperforms stainless steel products, as its blade forms a micro-serrated surface characteristic of several co-forged steel materials. Since Damascus steel is a type of carbon steel, it is especially important to remember that it requires proper care. Just as you wouldn’t bring a hunting rifle home from a rainy day out on the hunt and leave it uncleaned and untreated, you must take care of your knife, which also plays an important role in the hunting process. After use, a Damascus steel knife must be thoroughly wiped down, cleaned of dirt, and allowed to dry to prevent moisture buildup during storage, which can cause rust over time, and don’t forget to oil it. You don’t need to buy professional care products for this purpose; any cooking oil from your kitchen will work, since a hunting knife almost always comes into contact with meat and other food products, so using machine oil to protect the knife is not recommended. You also shouldn’t forget about regular sharpening and adjustment. However, anyone can forget a knife they’ve just used in the car or at the bottom of a bag, and when it sits there for a while, dark spots appear on the blade—the first signs of rust. But don’t worry—you don’t have to give up your favorite tool! For the best results, simply head to any hardware store, buy the finest-grit sandpaper (P2000–2500), and remove the rust spots by gently rubbing the blade. Remember that your knife will last longer and perform better if you take a moment each day to care for it properly, but if, after purchasing a knife, you’re still unsure about how to care for it, AA Knives will be happy to advise you on how to properly care for your knife.
