Although the year marking Latvia’s 101st anniversary has already passed, it is still worth reflecting on the experiences that will remain vivid in each of our memories, because the very first centennial is special, as is the opportunity to live during that era; yet, undeniably, our nation’s roots extend far deeper into the past. Times change, and the nation changes with them, yet there are things that have become almost self-evident over time because they are part of our identity: Latvian symbols. Woven into belts, knitted into mittens, engraved on stones, and carved into weapons—so that their presence might ward off misfortune and bring good luck, success, and prosperity. Every hunter prepares before setting out on a hunt and takes his best weapons with him, but situations often arise during the hunt when even the best weapons, outstanding knowledge, and years of accumulated experience are surpassed by simple luck—which favors some more often than others— so it may be worth reflecting on the values that our ancestors considered to bring good luck. AAKnives offers a very special series of knives—Latvia 100. By combining high-quality, handcrafted knives with decorative Latvian symbols of strength on the blade, the owner receives not only a visually beautiful knife that will stand out beautifully in any collection, but also an exceptional tool that will certainly not let you down even in demanding work conditions. Beautifully balanced shapes, wooden handles in natural tones, and a variety of Latvian symbols to suit every taste.
The knife handles feature many different Latvian symbols, such as “
” and “JUMIS,” which symbolize life, prosperity, and double good fortune.
The well symbol. A symbol of the sun and earth that protects its owner from misfortune, safeguards the family and home, and symbolizes order and a new beginning. ZALKTIS is a symbol of knowledge and the protection of the home. The energy of life and renewal.
AUSEKLIS—a protective symbol for men. The victory of light over darkness. It wards off evil people.
The Cross of Māra, also known as the Cross of Crosses, is often depicted on bread because of its positive energy; it brings good luck and health. Māra is the supreme mother goddess. Determination and perfection.
This knife would also make a wonderful and thoughtful gift for a friend or loved one; however, keep in mind that the recipient must give a coin in return—that’s the tradition!
12C27 steel is part of the Sandvik family. It is a low-carbon steel with a high chromium content that is popular in the knife industry, as it offers excellent wear resistance, corrosion resistance, and high hardness—the key properties that make for an ideal knife steel.
Furthermore, 12C27 steel sharpens relatively quickly, unlike other high-chromium steels, which take a long time to sharpen due to their hard chromium carbides. Sandvik 12C27 steel is commonly used in the manufacture of hunting knives, pocket knives, fishing knives, camping knives, tactical knives, skate blades, and ice augers.
Thanks to its high chromium content, 12C27 steel is resistant to corrosion and rust. Furthermore, since it is made of stainless steel, it is stain-resistant.
However, you cannot expect this steel knife to remain rust-free in water for several days. If you want these steel blades to last for decades, you should dry and oil them after each use or if you plan to store them for an extended period.
