Use and care of Damascus steel

Damascus steel is widely known as one of the most durable knife steels chosen by hunters, anglers and outdoor enthusiasts.

The Damascus steel offered by AA Knives is forged from three different steels to produce a well-known and unique pattern that combines the positive working qualities of the three steels used – durability, flexibility and long-lasting sharpness. It is believed that due to its excellent cutting ability, this steel often tends to outperform stainless steel products, as its blade forms a micro-saw-like surface characteristic of several co-milled steel materials. Since Damascus steel is one of the rusting steels, it is especially important to remember that it needs to be properly maintained.

Just as if you were to bring home a weapon from rainy day at hunting  you would not put it away uncleaned and untreated, just as you have to take care of your knife, which also plays important role in the hunting process. The Damascus steel knife should be thoroughly wiped off after use, free of dirt and drained to avoid moisture during storage, which can cause rusting over time, and do not forget about lubrication. You do not need to buy professional protective equipment for this purpose, as any cooking oil in the kitchen will come in handy as the hunting knife is almost always in contact with meat and other foods, so using mechanical oil to protect the knife is not recommended. Nor should we forget about regular sharpening and adjusting.

However, everyone may forget a freshly used knife in the car or at the bottom of a bag, and when it is located there for a while, the blade has dark spots – the first signs of rust. But don’t worry you don’t have to give up your favorite tool! To get the best result , just go to any construction store and buy the finest sandpaper (P2000 – 2500) and get rid of rust stains with a light blade rubbing.

Remember that the knife will last longer and work better if you can find a short moment to properly care for it every day, but if the aspects of care still seem unclear when you buy a knife, AA Knives  will kindly advise you how to take good care of you knife .
