Japanese VG10 steel
The knife blade is made of VG10 Japanese stainless steel, which is widely recognized for its use in the manufacture of high-quality knives. VG10 is valued for its good balance of hardness, edge retention, and corrosion resistance. When properly heat-treated, VG10 produces an extremely sharp cutting edge and maintains its cutting performance over the long term.

The Gauja black soil, dating back more than 1,000 years
The dark portion of the knife’s handle is made from a special type of black oak that has lain in the bed of the Gauja River for more than 1,000 years. Its prolonged exposure to water and sediment has given the oak its characteristic dark hue and unique wood grain.
Each piece of wood is different, which is why the pattern on each knife handle is unique.
The handles are accented with light-colored Latvian elk antler, whose natural grain creates an elegant contrast with the dark black oak. The combination of these two natural materials gives the knife a distinctly Nordic character that is characteristic of Latvia’s natural landscape.

The knife and its components are carefully crafted and finished by hand. The structure, tone, and grain of the natural materials may vary slightly from one piece to another—which is precisely why each knife is unique.
